Our Mission
Desert Pipes promotes:
Welcoming players of all levels, beginners to advanced
Playing recorders in a large consort-format group
Learning from leading recorder teachers and performers and each other in workshops (see our photo gallery page for just a few examples)
Sponsoring concerts by renowned performers
Networking with fellow musicians
Supporting the mission of the American Recorder Society in the Phoenix metro area
Part of our mission is to promote recorder playing among students. The possibilities include classroom performance, helping with resources and the opportunity to attend our meetings. For any teachers in the Phoenix area, please contact info@desertpipes.org and let us know what might be useful to you and how we can help.
Our repertoire for monthly playing sessions includes a variety of styles, eras, and arrangements starting at an intermediate level, but we have resources for players of all levels of ability.
Membership fee, per calendar year, is $85 for members of the American Recorder Society and $95 for others, or $10 per meeting for part-year residents or drop-ins. There is no charge for your first meeting, so come try us out. Desert Pipes is free for Arizona teachers - please contact Desert Pipes at info@desertpipes.org for details.
Many of our members have their own performing groups, so it is a great opportunity for networking with fellow musicians.
Playing It Safe With Desert Pipes
At the Meetings
Masks are optional.
To keep our playing environment safe:
Chairs will still be distanced as far apart as possible.
The room will be ventilated as much as much as possible during playing sessions to facilitate air exchange. You may bring your own small fan if you wish.
Players are encouraged to spend the break time outside.
When possible, we will play outdoors, which is safer than playing indoors. Participants will be notified know ahead of time.
